Coach Gary and the Rock talk to the kids at Helen Keller Park!

You Should've Smelled What "The Roc" Was Cooking Yesterday

Saturday, Dewayne Johnson, better known as "The Roc", a former 7 time American Wrestling Federeation Champion, was the special film guest at the monthly Helen Keller Park screening. He swooped up in his Range Rover on some unsuspecting inner city youth's who of course went mad when he walked through the park with body guard protection.

Mr. Johnson spoke with the young black and latino men and women about making mistakes and learning from them. See, life has not been all glitz and glam for Johnson. As told by him, "I've made some bad choices in life. I took things that did not belong to me. I lied. I cheated. I hurt some people and for those things I am not proud of. But I had a second chance at life and made a decision to do the right thing with the help of my parents and people who cared enough about me to stop me in my tracks and set me straight". This he said was the inspiration behind him doing his last film "The Grid Iron Gang" a movie based on a real life situation at Camp Kilpatrick, a youth detainee camp. Also present was some of the staff and coaches from Camp Kilpatrick.

It may not seem much, but it was some powerful stuff coming from a man that many  young blacks admire for his acting and wrestling skill set. He came with a positive intelligent vibe for the youth. I can appreciate that and it was a lovely evening of entertainment, food and fun for just a small part of the big community of Los Angeles, CA.

Much thanks to BAFTA Los Angeles, C.U.R.E. and the Helen Keller Park staff t for making a difference to those who it matters most to.

Speacial thanks to The Summer 2007 Inner City Youth Film Makers who came out and supported the community as well. Inner City Youth Film Makers is a internship youth program for graduating high school seniors who are seeking careers in the Television Industy.

Cameron Bonner, C.U.R.E. founder, my friend and confidante, you are a mountain of a man with a God given vision. I support and love you black man for leading righteously and being true to your core! Thanks also goes out to Gary Robinson, Wiz, Renne, Sonda and the entire C.U.R.E.. staff and family! what a great job hosting again. Thanks also to the Morningside Buccaneers of the SYFL. Thank you for your support.
